A store is counted once for each type its page runs, so the shares add up to more than 100%. A subscription is any option sold on a selling plan; a quantity break is a lower unit price for buying more; a free-shipping threshold is an order value above which a one-time order ships free.

How deep subscribe-and-save discounts go

The median first-order discount is 15%, from 0% to 40%; on a renewal it is 13.8% across 51 stores.

The discount is the subscription's price below the one-time price of the same units, read from the cart. A struck-through price nobody can pay is never the comparison. 60 of the stores sell a subscription and 52 of them state a one-time price for the same units; a store with several subscription options counts once, at their median.

Free-shipping thresholds against the product's price

The median threshold is 1.5× the price of the page's default option, and $50 across the 89 stores selling in US dollars.

The threshold is the order value above which a one-time order ships free, read from the cart, the page or the store's shipping policy. It is divided by what the cart charged for the option the page selects by default: a store's average order value is not public, and the default option is the order the page is built to sell. Below 1× means that option already ships free.

How the page price becomes the charged price

Selling plan price is the most used: 48 of 61 stores that discount (78.7%), seen applied in a cart at 48.

The mechanism is what turns the price a page shows into the price a cart charges: a selling plan's price, a discount Shopify applies by itself, a code, a cart transform, or a cart link that carries a code. A store using two counts under both.

Each option counted here was added to an empty cart, and the cart's total was compared with the price the page showed for it, to the cent. 494 options shown on these pages were not added to a cart and are in neither count. No order was placed.

How it is built

The sample is a list of well-known brands that sell direct on Shopify, chosen before any page was read. It is not a random sample of Shopify stores, so read each figure as what these stores do. At each store, one product page is read: its best seller, as the store’s own catalog ranks it.

On that page, the default option is added to an empty cart, then the subscription option and one quantity tier where the page offers them. The cart’s total is compared with the price the page showed, to the cent. Nothing goes past the cart: no checkout step, no order, no personal detail.

This report counts 132 stores from 132 pages, captured between 13 October 2026 and 24 October 2026. 4 listed pages no longer existed and 2 were left out because the page was not a Shopify product page with an option to buy. 25 more were read but left out because no option could be added to a cart, since a figure here stands only on a page whose price a cart confirmed. Every share states the stores it is a share of.

No store is named. The report holds counts, shares and ranges only, and a store’s own prices are never shown.
