How the fee is charged

Shopify Payments takes a percentage of the amount charged plus $0.30 per transaction in the United States. The percentage depends on the store’s plan and on the card: a standard card costs 2.9% + $0.30 on Basic and 2.25% + $0.30 on Plus; a premium card costs 3.5% + $0.30 on Basic and 2.95% + $0.30 on Plus; a card taken in person costs 2.6% + $0.10 on Basic and 2.3% + $0.10 on Plus.

  • Fee = amount charged × the plan’s rate for the card, rounded to the smallest unit of the currency, + the fixed amount

A store that takes payment through another provider instead pays Shopify a transaction fee on those orders: 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced, 0.2% on Plus.

In your margin

A card fee is a cost of every order, and it grows with what the customer pays, so a discount lowers it and paid shipping raises it. Offer Suite costs it in every forecast as a rate plus a fixed amount per order, 2.9% + $0.30 unless you change it: the Basic rate in the United States. Set both to your plan’s row above and every offer’s margin is costed at what your plan pays.

The fee on this page is computed by the same margin engine, so the figure in the table is the one a forecast subtracts.
