How the fee is charged

Shopify Payments takes a percentage of the amount charged plus €0.25 per transaction in Ireland. The percentage depends on the store’s plan and on the card: a standard card costs 2% + €0.25 on Basic and 1.4% + €0.25 on Plus; an American Express card costs 3.1% + €0.25 on Basic and 2.4% + €0.25 on Plus; an international card costs 3.1% + €0.25 on Basic and 2.4% + €0.25 on Plus; a card taken in person costs 1.7% on Basic and 1.5% on Plus.

  • Fee = amount charged × the plan’s rate for the card, rounded to the smallest unit of the currency, + the fixed amount

A store that takes payment through another provider instead pays Shopify a transaction fee on those orders: 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced, 0.2% on Plus.

In your margin

A card fee is a cost of every order, and it grows with what the customer pays, so a discount lowers it and paid shipping raises it. Offer Suite costs it in every forecast as a rate plus a fixed amount per order, 2.9% + $0.30 unless you change it: the Basic rate in the United States. Set both to your plan’s row above and every offer’s margin is costed at what a store in Ireland pays.

The fee on this page is computed by the same margin engine, so the figure in the table is the one a forecast subtracts.
